Blue Bear
Project
I See What You Mean, (AKA known as Blue Bear) by artist Lawrence Argent appears to look through the third story window of the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. The sculpture is derived from a digitally scanned and manipulated maquette, then digitally enlarged by Kreysler & Associates and realized in 6 segments out of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP). Single-use foam molds generated from computer data using CNC machines created FRP panels which were then assembled into a full-size sculpture. A partial internal steel armature reduced deflection in extreme wind conditions. Matched mold assembly joints make seams nearly invisible, allowing on-site assembly without on-site finish work. The story of making the Blue Bear is told in this short documentary film by academy award-winning filmmaker Daniel Junge.
